First Pluto’s not a planet… now Bernoulli’s principle doesn’t cause a plane to fly?
I’m a nerd. Every time I fly, I look out the window and think about Bernoulli’s principle. In fact, it’s one of those things where I try NOT to think about it when I fly, but by trying NOT to think about it, I think about it. But yesterday, someone who works at GE Aircraft Engines told me that it wasn’t true!
Brewers’s Magic Number Countdown
Start the Brewers Magic Number countdown! On a whim, I thought I’d look up how to calculate the magic number for a team. It’s basically games remaining minus how many games the team is up over that team plus one. So here are the Brewers magic numbers:
St. Louis Cardinals: 48
Pittsburgh Pirates: 44
Cincinnati Reds: 44
Chicago Cubs: 36
Houston Astros: 27
Oh What a Night… A story of fun, memories, and pre-web 1.0
This weekend I went to see Jersey Boys with my family. For those not in the know, Jersey Boys is the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. One of my all time favorite songs is “December 1963 (Oh What a Night).” You will see the importance of the parenthetical phrase shortly.
I’m not sure what made it my favorite song. I first heard it at a high school dance (Senior Ball, 1995… if only it were December 1993, that would be poetic justice). I’m not sure if it was the catchy piano introduction/chord progression, how the beat was easy to dance to, how easy it was to belt out the words, or even the “doo-doo-doo-doot doots.” Maybe it was because it WAS “what a night” (not like THAT, I didn’t know the actual meaning of the song back then… just that it was a fun night of dancing with my friends).
The biggest thrill of my life
Many of you may know this about me, others may not… I have a song written about me. No lie. My friend Tom triggered this memory when he sent out and email entitled “WINGS AND BEER.” For those people from Wisconsin, you’ll know what I’m talking about. There’s a cult hero there named Pat McCurdy who sings a song entitled… well, something close to “Wings and Beer.”
